Nicole Cushman says sex ed might be the answer to our country’s sexual assault problem.

If we invested in comprehensive education from an early age, young people in America might grow up with a better understanding of consent and healthy boundaries,” she explained. “Quality sex ed isn’t just about the birds and the bees. If we want to put a stop to our pervasive culture of sexual assault, education needs to go a lot further than just preventing pregnancy and STDs. Young people need to understand healthy relationships, boundaries and, of course, consent.”

She went on to explain, “Let’s treat sex ed like math or history and give students the building blocks they need from a young age. If we want to make an impact and raise a generation that treats everyone with respect, a generation that understands boundaries and consent, a generation that ends the epidemic of sexual assault, sex ed needs to start early. It needs to be honest. It needs to be inclusive of people of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQ people, and people who live at the intersections of these identities. So, we’re fixing the patchwork of sex ed across the country by taking our message online, where young people are.
