Hoka One One has become synonymous with fun colors, lots of cushioning, and a gigantic sole rocker that would look at home on a FitFlop. But compared to some of their sillier-looking offerings, the Torrent is subdued. It has the softest upper of any shoe I tested, with abrasion-resistant rubber zones and breathable mesh. It also has deep, widely-spaced, and multidirectional lugs that provided traction on every surface. At 7.4 ounces per shoe, they’re lighter than even the minimalist Swimruns. And like all Hoka One One shoes, they seem to propel you irresistibly forward.
